Case: Making Quick Work of a Highly Customized Davit
Some projects can’t wait, even if they’re highly specialized pieces like the custom davits that SIT recently completed for a military purpose. The davits needed to be engineered from scratch for a unique boat with a very specific purpose.
However, few vendors were capable or willing to produce such custom work in the time span needed: only 8-12 weeks.
In a tight spot, the client reached out to the people they had come to trust over a 15-year relationship: SIT. Since lifting equipment is one of SIT’s specialties, and since SIT had particular experience constructing custom davits and other supporting equipment with this client, SIT went to work quickly.
Through expedited analyses and conceptual wireframe designs, SIT was able to quickly turn around its proposal and deliver a 3D visual view of the davit for Customer approval. SIT was then able to quickly source components and meet the compact project delivery timeline.
Not only was SIT able to meet all the requirements in a timely manner, they were able to expedite all the required certifications and approvals. The client was thrilled to have the work completed so quickly. With the new davits in place, the client achieved greater reliability and availability of system components to complete missions. Further, the new equipment is much easier to maintain because it leverages synthetic fiber rope instead of steel wire rope removing the need to grease the rope and providing easier change out and handling during operation. All being proof that SIT’s nimble and flexible team excels at challenging, custom projects.
